Worked hard on friday, was too tired to even sip some suds, went to bed early. Saturday was the tx4wd meeting, so it was time to put a radiator in. didn't take too long, jeetyet helped a hand by watching. It was a little bigger, so a few big zip ties made it fit in the mounts just fine. This time it didn't even leak. By 1:30 some members showed up and we headed out on the trail. We played at first beach where carnage struck early and Scotty mac's axle gave up the ghost. We continued on and went up the lumber jack. The first climb was tough and a few did not make it up. The first five trucks made the loop and waited for the rest of the crew. Ended up going down the creek and I blasted up a hill that put me right by the squeeze, just in time to see trail kelly turn back from the hill with a nice new dent on the driver's side from the stump at the top. Donny tried to come up behind me and got mired don in some sludge. Went around to help him out but he was already out before I got to him. We played at first beach where we watched Donny blow out a mile marker lockout and Scotty almost roll Dan's buggy. I went around top and almost rolled the buggy on the other side with the tow strap. After repositioning I pulled him up the hill without a problem. We also went down by three stage and watched a fourwheeler do an awesome tumble. No injuries and the bike seemed just fine too.
Before the meeting we all played in the field; Dan climbed the big rock pile, Mark ended up the donut king and there was an impromptu drag race across the field. We all ate some awesome big burgers that Mark S made and started the meeting.
The meeting was lengthy and quite some discussion was had over some old bussiness. people from tomball/coroe, liberty, and houston chapter were all in attendance. It was the biggest tx4wd turnout ever at the creek.
After the meeting we wheeled more, finally ending up at the spillway to run one of the best ravines around, the "pain in the ass" The gulf coast crawl shop was there with a few rides, as well as some super s and myself. I went first, and went uneventful till the exit., an eight foot wall that needed to be scaled. After some wiggling around to get lined up I gave it hell. It took quite a few tries just to get the front tires up over the lip at the top, and then it was real hard to get the skid plate to come over the lip. It took about 25 attempts before it finally came over the top. Next in line Javier set out to conquer the ledge, hitting it over and over. Several times it was inches from bringing the back tires over the top, so Jeff and I decided that we'd give him a little help to crest the hill and on the next attempt we grabbed the front of the truck and gave it a mighty push, but no dice. Javier pushed the clutch in and Jeff still had a hold of the truck. The truck rolled back and Jeff lost his balance and tumbled head over heels down the ledge. Fearing the worst We looked down in the ravine where jeff was just getting up, unspilled beverage in hand saying "I'm o.k." After the scare we winched up the land cruiser and Javier's son gave it a shot. After just a few tries the jeep shot right up and Dave wasa next in line. It took several attempts, as the klune v underdrive was geared almost too low to get enough tire speed to crest the hill. After a few tries he did finally creest the hill. Now we were just waiting for Jeff to conquer the hill. He pulled around and before we knew it he was laying on the driver's side. There was no easy way to turn it back over, man power was just not enough, and we had a slew of non working winches and missing remotes, so we dug up a come along and started the slow process of righting the truck. The come a long was not working out so we rigged a strap to the bottom of the truck and gave it a few tugs and it was back on it's wheels. Only problem now was a dead battery and the gas leaked out of the tank when it was on the side. A few minutes later we had it fired up and he headed for the ledge. The first attempt shot him up the ledge and about five foot up a tree. He backed up, lined up and went up on the second attempt. By now it was almost four a.m. and all I could think about was a shower and bed. Our return trip was delayed one more time with a hot motor and a dead (again) battery, which was quickly remedied and we were back at camp in no time.
Sunday i didn't wheel much, just once to go and rescue Russel of off road unlimited who requered four back to back jump starts and a pull back to camp after the starter died of mud poisoning, and once to transport an injured rider to his truck after a tumble down the competition hill. Stevie, Whaylen and several other good trucks came out to play, and Paul got attacked by some bees on one of the ravines. Peanut brought out his big suburban and played in the mud bogs, clearing them out and making it look easy. It looked so easy that I went and got my truck and gave it a shot. No dice, got stuck about half track in a hole, so Peanut back up to me and gave me a tug to get me going. After that we cleaned up for a big meal at the awful house. Had a fun weekend and wheeled for 14 hours on saturday. Now just got to clean all the mud out of everything for next time........See y'all next weekend!!!!!!!!!
